One of the ways NL Health Services – Labrador-Grenfell Zone evaluates patient safety standards is through the accreditation process. Accreditation helps us to meet national standards of safety and quality. NL Health Services – Labrador-Grenfell Zone participates in Accreditation Canada’s Qmentum Program which includes:
- carefully reviewing national standards to ensure we are meeting quality and safety requirements;
- seeking client and family input and feedback;
- identifying and acting on areas for improvement; and
- connecting with our staff and physicians to help create a better workplace and a strong culture of safety.
Participation in Accreditation Canada’s program allows us to evaluate our performance against national standards of excellence and enables us to identify opportunities to improve care and services in a way that is transparent.
In June 2024, Labrador-Grenfell Zone received Accredited standing from Accreditation Canada, and this means that Labrador-Grenfell Zone has met national standards of excellence. The following areas were assessed against Accreditation Canada requirements for quality and safety:
- Aboriginal Integrated Primary Care;
- Community-Based Mental Health Services and Supports;
- Critical Care Services;
- Diagnostic Imaging Services;
- Emergency Department;
- EMS and Interfacility Transport;
- Home Care Services;
- Infection Prevention and Control;
- Inpatient Services;
- Leadership;
- Long-Term Care Services;
- Medication Management;
- Obstetrics Services;
- Perioperative Services and Invasive Procedures;
- Point-of-Care Testing;
- Public Health Services;
- Reprocessing of Reusable Medical Devices;
- Transfusion Services
Achieving Accredited standing is a testament to our staff and their unwavering commitment to providing safe, quality care in partnership with clients, patients, residents and families.
Labrador-Grenell Zone met 87.7 per cent of required criteria during the on-site survey.
