Public Notice – November 6, 2020
Labrador-Grenfell Health is pleased to report that our 2020-21 Seasonal Influenza Immunization Program has been seen great participation across the region with plans to continue in the coming weeks and months. To date, we report over 8,600 people vaccinated across the Labrador-Grenfell Health region.
Dr. Thomas Piggott, Medical Officer of Health said “getting vaccinated against influenza is always important, but especially this year in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. If we can decrease influenza infections by vaccination, we’ll decrease concerning symptoms that can mimic COVID-19. It’s not too late to get out and get your flu shot now.”
With our mass community clinics now completed, individuals can continue to look forward to many other avenues to get continue getting their flu shot including:
- Appointments at their local Public Health Offices (starting November 23)
- Schools throughout the region (Grades 4-12)
- Community Pharmacies
- Home Supports
- Physicians and Nurse Practitioners
For individuals interested in making an appointment with Public Health, they are encouraged to book through the Health Myself service online here or by calling the toll free line at 1-833-951-3904. All appointments must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Walk in appointments will not be available. Availability for influenza vaccines through public health will continue to be added based on demand, so check back frequently if you are unable to identify a convenient appointment.
Individuals who are homebound and unable to receive a vaccine in the community are invited to call Community Health to book an appointment in their own (1-833-284-4751).
Individuals who cannot avail of the options listed above and would like to request an earlier appointment through their local Public Health office are invited to call their local Public Health Office (numbers below).
All individuals presenting at Labrador-Grenfell Health facilities for a flu shot will be screened for COVID-19 through a series of questions and will be required to wear a mask.
The health authority is encouraging the public to receive their annual flu shot to protect themselves and their loved ones against the communicable disease.
