Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) refers to the wide range of physical, behavioural and cognitive impairments that occur due to alcohol exposure before birth. FASD assessment is a process for identifying individuals that may be ‘at risk’ for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder or another disability. Early and accurate diagnosis can provide individuals and their families the opportunity to access services to meet their needs, leading to enhanced overall well-being and improved outcomes.
The Labrador-Grenfell Zone Multidisciplinary Diagnostic Clinic offers assessment and diagnosis, and provides education on the effects of FASD and how best to meet the needs of someone with a diagnosis. The clinic team includes:
- Regional FASD Coordinator
- Pediatrician/Family Physician
- Psychologist
- Speech Language Pathologist
- Occupational Therapist
Clinics take place in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and St. Anthony, and assessment is available for individuals eight (8) years of age and older throughout the region.
