Smoking and breathing second-hand smoke are the leading causes of many illnesses. On January 1, 2008, Labrador-Grenfell Health became the first Regional Health Authority in Newfoundland and Labrador to have all of its owned and operated properties designated smoke-free.
Like many other health authorities across Canada, Labrador-Grenfell Health has banned smoking right to the end of its property lines. The new policy is a vital component of Labrador-Grenfell Health’s vision of “Healthy people living in healthy communities”.
Labrador-Grenfell Health is committed to providing a smoke-free environment for its clients, employees and community by treating tobacco addiction; protecting all employees, physicians, volunteers, students, patients, visitors and the general public from tobacco smoke on Labrador-Grenfell Health property; supporting employees in adopting a healthy lifestyle, and providing leadership in tobacco reduction initiatives.
