Funds raised through the recent Annual Charity Golf Tournament that took place on August 11, 2016 were used to meet the commitment of $150,000 to assist with the purchase of a new CT scanner installed at the Labrador Health Centre in 2009 at cost of more than $ 2,000,000.
Most recently, through the Grenfell Foundation, the Labrador East Chapter facilitated the purchase of three portable ultrasounds for the Labrador Health Centre and committed to the purchase of another four touch screen portable ultrasound units for Nain, Natuashish, Hopedale and Cartwright at a cost of approximately $120,000.
According to Dr. Michael Jong, Vice President of Medical Services with Labrador-Grenfell Health, bedside ultrasounds will allow for more immediate and accurate diagnosis of many medical conditions and will allow patients to receive treatment without having to leave their community.
